You can integrate GMetrix with Blackboard using Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) 1.1. Once configured, students can access GMetrix content directly within Blackboard, and scores will automatically sync between both platforms.

Notes and Compatibility

  • You must have access to both Blackboard and the GMetrix Administrator Portal.
  • For in-app tests, students must download the Skills Management System (SMS).
    • Note: Certain exams only support SMS for Windows.
    • Adobe, AutoCAD, and MOS exams are not available on macOS (SMSe).

Part 1: Gather Integration Details from GMetrix

Before you can link GMetrix and Blackboard you'll need to gather details from the GMetrix Administrator Portal. Consider copying this information into a document for later use.

Step 1: Find the Classroom Code

Each Classroom in GMetrix has a unique Classroom Code. You’ll need this to associate the Classroom with Blackboard.

  1. Sign in to the Administrator Portal at gmetrix.net/manage.
  2. From the sidebar, select Classrooms.
  3. Locate the desired Classroom and select Details.
  4. The Classroom Code appears below the tab bar.

Step 2: Get Your LTI Credentials

LTI credentials are unique to each institution or testing center. For example, each school in a district will have its own credentials. Make sure you have the correct credentials before integrating the platforms.

  1. From the sidebar, select Dashboard.
  2. Scroll to Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) and select Resources Key Lookup.
  3. Choose Request LTI Key and Secret.
  4. Copy your institution’s credentials:
    • Key: The consumer key used for authentication.
    • Secret: The shared secret for secure communication.
  5. Collect the resource keys needed for each Course or Practice Exam:
    • Course Keys: Go to the Course Keys tab. Expand a category to see Programs and copy the key.
    • Test Keys: Go to the Test Keys tab. Expand a Program to find its Practice Exams and keys.

Part 2: Set Up the Integration in Blackboard

After collecting the required information from GMetrix, you can complete the integration steps in Blackboard.

Before You Begin: Both the Blackboard course and the GMetrix resource (Course or Practice Exam) must be registered with LTI 1.1. You must register the Blackboard course before registering and adding individual GMetrix resources.

Step 1: Add GMetrix as a Tool Provider

This step is only required once per Blackboard course.

  1. Sign in to Blackboard.
  2. In the System Admin tab, open the Administrator Panel.
  3. Go to Integrations → LTI Tool Providers → Register LTI 1.1 Provider.
  4. In the Provider Domain Statussection, configure the following:
    • Provider Domain: www.gmetrix.net
    • Provider Domain Status: Approved
  5. In the Default Configurationsection, configure the following:
    • Tool Provider Key: Enter the Key from the GMetrix Administrator Portal.
    • Tool Provider Secret: Enter the Secret from the GMetrix Administrator Portal.
  6. In the Institutional Policiessection, configure the following:
    • Send User Data: Send user data only over SSL
    • User Fields to Send: Name and Email Address
  7. Select Submit.

Step 2: Add GMetrix Content to a Blackboard Course

Each GMetrix Course or Practice Exam must be added individually and registered as a “Teaching Tool” in Blackboard.

  1. On the Course Content page, select the add button (+).
  2. In the Create Item panel, choose Create → Teaching tools with LTI connection.
  3. Update the name and set visibility to Visible to students.
  4. In the Configuration URLsection, configure the following:
    • In the dropdown menu, choose https://
    • In the text field, enter www.gmetrix.net/lti
  5. In the Custom Parameterssection, enter the following information:
    accesscode=classroom_code
    gmxresourcekey=resource_key
    • Replace classsroom_code with your Classroom Code and resource_key with your Course Key or Test Key.
  6. Configure any remaining options based on your class needs, then select Save.
  7. Repeat this process for each Course or Practice Exam you want to add.

Notes and Reminders

  • GMetrix must be registered as an “LTI 1.1 Tool Provider” in the Blackboard course before content can be added.
    • You only need to register GMetrix once per Blackboard course.
  • Each GMetrix Course or Practice Exam must be registered individually.
